This was an odd ball. Tiny little crawfish made a tiny little chimney – but when I started working with the hole it seemed like it wouldn’t fill up! His little tube when down a few inches and split to a feed path but also joined a much bigger tube system and burrow of another crawfish. I used a portion of the other guys burrow to make the base. This one (Tiny) left a great curated molding and was mounted exactly as it was. The Mound / Chimney is sealed to make it a lot less fragile. The arms are aluminum, cleaned up with most of the sharp and poorly formed areas worked out. Base is painted and sealed pine. All elements are rough in nature and texture. As far as I searched- I’ve never seen a mound preserved, never seen a burrow preserved and never seen the combination mounted or displayed in any way. It may exist – but I’ve never seen one. Truly one of a kind. So far, only 8 of 30+ attempts have been successful- some explode! Surely a conversation piece for anyone that knows what a crawfish is.. Chimney and base will be.
