This item is the artist’s proof for the lucite and sterling silver sculpture, “Judgement of Solomon, ” by Yaacov Heller, American-born artist, one-time Israeli resident. It is the first of a limited edition of the work, and it was given to Gilbert and Sue Zellan by the artist, himself, as shown by a small plaque on the front of the piece. The dramatic sculpture depicts the climax of the Biblical story of King Solomon’s pronouncement to “divide the baby in half” to determine the true mother of the child. Details in the sculpture show the raw emotions on the faces of all involved. Produced in 1994, the piece is signed by the artist on the back of the throne. Weighing just over 13 pounds, it is approximately 13″ wide x 9″ tall x 10 deep. The lucite/acrylic is clear, with some indentations and rock-like features included. Figures are silver and gold, possibly over pewter. The king’s throne is detailed with lions and the tablets of the 10 Commandments numbered in Hebrew letters. All pieces are firmly attached, though the king does rock a bit when moved. This is the only one exactly like this in existence. A truly unique piece of Biblical art!
